What are cord blood banks?

Cord blood banks are medical facilities that, in accordance with global medical standards, process and test cord blood and store stem cells and samples necessary for a successful transplantation. Seeing that cord blood can be used for haematopoietic stem cell (HSC) transplantation in the same way and for the same patients as bone marrow or peripheral stem cells, cord blood banks offer an additional possibility for finding a graft quickly. The founding of a cord blood bank is a sign of technological progress, and the start of operation of such a bank positions Croatia alongside countries which have been running such programmes for years.
